This strip, originally printed in my university newspaper, is the first appearance of the worm who would later appear as a main character in Chuck Loves the World. Notice that here, his name is "S.O.B." Allan and I have always considered this to be the worm's real name, but we didn't think it'd be appropriate in the newspapers where we were running our strip. The planned recurring gag was that the worm would piss people off, and they'd walk away saying "What an S.O.B." This is Chuck's second appearance. Note his grunge-ness. This is kinda what I looked like at the time.
You might notice that the logo on this strip is identical to the official Chuck logo. With very little planning behind it, I happened to come up with something I liked on the first try.
In the past, I've been asked why the worm is featured in the logo when Ratsputin is more the main character, and clearly the fan-favortie. Well, here's the answer. When I designed the logo, Ratsputin didn't exist yet.
