Chuck Loves the World Graphic Novel in Production

May 15, 1998

It's official! Production has begun on Evil Eye Comics' summer of '99 project, which is none other than a Chuck Loves the World graphic novel.

"Why Chuck? For a few reasons," said Evil Eye Executive Kenten Bowick. "Evil Eye Comics has three primary comic properties, Stone Henge, Scathe, and Chuck Loves the World. We are saving Scathe until we are firmly established, because it'll be a thirty, maybe forty-issue tightly-plotted series with a huge climactic ending. Not the kind of thing readers can jump onto halfway through. Stone Henge we'll start as a regular series, but we don't have the time or resources to do a monthly series right now.

"We felt like doing a graphic novel, 64 or 72 pages, and the most likely candidate to star was Chuck." But Evil Eye Comics discovered they had a problem. "We just have too many funny characters," he said, "too many to ever do a comic or comic strip for. So I decided that the best way to deal with it is to stick them all in Chuck."

This required the premise of the strip to be overhauled to accommodate other Evil Eye characteres like the rodent from Mad Rodent Dreams, and many others.

"Chuck Loves the World was originally about a kid named Chuck and this six-foot-tall worm who was sort of a physical manifestation of that part of his personality. But now we've diversified it by introducing more characters to represent other negative sides of Chuck's personality. What resulted was a cast of characters that interact in wildly unpredicable ways with not only Chuck, but each other. It's been pure fun to write."

Chuck Loves the World, the graphic novel, will be written by Kenten Bowick and Allan Westergard and will be drawn by Kenten. It will be released in the summer of '98, and will be available for sale on the Evil Eye Merchandise page.
